Members of the Coast Guards arrested five smugglers from Nazirartek coastal area of Cox's Bazar and recovered 340 sacks of cement from their possession during carrying those to Myanmar in a trawler through the sea, Lieutenant Commander Harun-ar-Rashid, Media Officer of Coast Guard Headquarters said Saturday noon.
The arrested smugglers were identified as Arafat (30) of Charfashion upazila of Bhola district, Ibrahim(26) of Patharghata upazila of Borguna district, Momtaz Ahmed(50) of Teknaf upazila under Cox's bazar district and Sukkur(50) and Zohar(36), residents of Kutupalang Rohingya camp of Ukhia upazila.
Lieutenant Commander Harun-ar-Rashid said, in the early morning of Saturday the Coastguard members watched a fishing trawler in the sea near Nazirartek of Cox's bazar and ordered the trawler to stop but defying the order the trawler driver tried to escape with the vehicle. Later, chasing the trawler for about an hour, the Coastgurd members were able to seize the trawler and arrested five smugglers from inside the trawler.
