Nearly 20,000 families, mostly women members, have been provided in jobs with some 600 Hair Processing factories in Chuadanga district. Hundreds of kilogrammes of disposed off hair is being transported to Chudanga daily for processing from various places of the country.
Monir Hossain, owner of a Hair Processing factory at Kutubpur village under Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga informed he started the Hair Processing factory with three kilogrmmes of hair. At present, nearly 30 to 40 kgs of hair is processed in his factory. Nearly 100 to 150 people, mostly women, are now employed in his factory.
He said, the non-processed, disposed off hair is purchased to the traders and the Remi hair is made from that. At first the non-processed hair is cleaned and sorted. Then the sorted hair is washed with water mixed in detergent powder and shampoo. Later, the hair is fastened together with rubber into small bundles through cutting machines. These bundles are again washed with shampoo and conditioners and are driew in air. These hair bundles are again measued with tape and sorted according to grades using the cutting machine amd the Remi is made. These Remi hair is sold to various the buyers of various countries. Buyers and their agents direct from China visited these Hair factories and purchased those Remis. As a result, the factory owners never need to visit anywhere to sell their hair. Owners of some factories also sold their Remi hair to Dhaka. Haji Hasibuzzaman Shahid Biswas, Founder President of Karpasdanga Hair Processing Traders Association, informed the hair traders of his areas were continuing their trades without any hassle. The price of a Remi hair depends on the length of hair. A long Remi hair is sold at a high price. A Remi with six inches of long is sold at Taka 1,200 per kilogramme while the Remi hair having the highest grade of 22 to 32 inches in length is sold at Tk 60,000 per kilogramme.
At present some 500 to 600 kilogrammes of processed hair are sold to the buyers daily the estimated price of the hair is around Tk 10 million( Taka One crore).
According to a source of Export Development Burea, the highest amount of forex amounting one crore 14 lakh ( 11.4 million) US dollar was earned by exporting hair in 2015-'16 fiscal year. Some countries including China are now investing in this sector.
Dr Kissinger Chakma, Deputy Commissioner of Chuadanga informed, the hair processing business being profitable, many people, specially women are being involved with the jobs. District Adminstration will cooperate to flourish the Hair Processing Industries further.
