As a foreign journalist, I have long been observing that under the dynamic and humanistic leadership of President Xi Jinping, China is tirelessly working for the welfare of humanity. The country is leading a great endeavor to build a community with a shared future for mankind.

Everyone will agree with me that the endeavor is grounded in the dream of President Xi about establishing a win-win and prosperous and peaceful world where no side will be a loser and every side is guaranteed to be a gainer.

To carry the dream ahead, the Chinese president came up with the major global concept of the community with a shared future for mankind while speaking at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations on March 23, 2013. Later in January 2017, President Xi expounded on the concept at the United Nations (UN) Office in Geneva.

The concept has been included in the preamble of the Constitution of the People's Republic of China when the Constitution was amended in 2018. It was also incorporated by the United Nations into the resolution of the UN Commission for Social Development in 2017. The China-proposed concept has also been used by the UN Disarmament Commission, the Human Rights Council, and the UN General Assembly First Commission.

The world has witnessed how, thanks to pragmatic efforts by China, the concept has since gained ground all over the world. Many nations have already joined hands with China to build an open, inclusive, clean, and beautiful world that enjoys lasting peace, universal security, and common prosperity envisaged in the concept of a shared future for humanity.

To implement the concept widely hailed by the international community, President Xi has eventually put forward a win-win cooperation approach named Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Thanks to its open and inclusive nature, the initiative has already been a successful platform for global cooperation and development.

A total of 140 countries and 32 international organizations have signed more than 200 cooperation documents with China to build the BRI, and China has also established more than 90 bilateral cooperation mechanisms.

Over the past decade, the BRI has galvanized nearly 1 trillion U.S. dollars of investment, established more than 3,000 cooperation projects, created 420,000 local jobs, and helped lift almost 40 million people out of poverty in its member countries across the globe.

In line with the concept of a shared future, China has proposed the Global Security Initiative, advocating a vision of common, comprehensive, cooperative, and sustainable security. Walking to talk, China has been a major troop contributor and the second-largest financial contributor to UN peacekeeping operations and has set up an 8,000-strong peacekeeping standby force.

China has also rolled out such cooperation platforms as the China International Import Expo (CIIE) and put forward the Global Development Initiative (GDI). The fifth edition of the CIIE earned tentative deals worth a total of 73.52 billion dollars for one-year purchases of goods and services. And more than 100 countries and many international organizations, including the United Nations, have committed support to the GDI, and close to 70 countries have joined the Group of Friends of the GDI.

Independent observers have no doubt that to build a shared future for mankind, President Xi has initiated many more pragmatic initiatives including the Dialogue of Civilizations. He has come up with the initiatives at a time when the entire world is paying high prices for the clash of civilizations.

Experts think that since the current world is fraught with many thorny issues including geopolitical tensions, conflicts, and bloody wars, the constructive China-led initiatives have turned out to be perfect alternatives to the clash, which is making the world dream of peaceful development.

Many are of the view that President Xi’s vision to build a community with a shared future for mankind has also brought opportunities for all to exert concerted effort to overcome the challenges and turn people's aspirations for a better life into reality.

I believe that as the world is facing many common challenges and threats alongside sharing almost the same dreams, the China-proposed concept has also contributed to bringing all closer to promoting economic globalization that is open, inclusive, balanced, and beneficial to all. It has especially helped some countries work together to eliminate poverty and backwardness.
