Candidates pledge to make Jamalpur a child friendly district

In the 12th National Assembly elections, the contending candidates of Jamalpur-5 constituencies pledged to establish a child and youth-friendly Jamalpur.

On Thursday, a delegation of the District Children and Youth Forum met the candidates in the morning and handed over memorandum of 17-point demand.

The team met Bangladesh Awami League (AL) candidate Abul Kalam Azad at 9 am, Jatiya Party (Plow) candidate Zakir Hossain at Setuli Bembo Garden at 11 am and independent candidate (Eagle) Rezaul Karim Reznoor at 12 noon and handed over the memorandum to the candidates.

Abul Kalam Azad said, “On receiving the children's memorandum, I have made my election motto Smart Jamalpur and providing door-to-door employment. A society where children develop normally is a country that moves towards rapid development.  If I can go to parliament, I will try to implement every point mentioned in the memorandum, inshallah”.

Independent candidate Rezaul Karim Reznu said, “I have given indirect and direct support to every social movement of the Development Association for the establishment of child rights.  If I become victorious, I will propose new laws in addition to the effectiveness of existing ones. Jamalpur will be a habitable safe land for children.”  

Hossain said, “Handing over the memorandum containg 17-point demand of the District Children and Youth Forum is a novel initiative. Whether I win or not, I will join the movement with this forum to implement the said demands.”

District Children Forum president Arpa Akhter presented the memorandum.

Jahangir Salim, Human Resource Development Director of Development Association, Jamalpur Area Program Manager Minara Parveen, CDO Sabbir Hossain, Forum members Arpa, Ishtiaq, Antar, Sheela, Zolkar Nain and Sifat were present, among others.

In the memorandum it is mentioned that although there is a lot of development in brick and stone in Jamalpur, there is no promising development or change in the development of humanity, especially in the best protection of children and adolescents. 

Family life education, religious discipline, Bengali culture and anti-spiritual activities of the liberation war are being observed more in the society.  

In addition to stopping all types of violence against children, taking specific plans for their normal development and overall development, taking smart plans to fight drug, polythene, child marriage and corrupt society, organizing training for the technical, humanitarian and leadership development of youth to establish Smart Jamalpur, unemployed 17-point demand were mentioned including provision of youth employment.

All the candidates thanked the organizers for taking such a novel initiative.
