BPC's 20-storey building being constructed at cost of Tk 150 crore in Ctg

Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) is going to build its headquarters in Jay Hill estate a unique area of the city. The cost for the construction of the 20-storey building is estimated at Tk 150 crore. Already, suggestions have been received from interested contractors. If everything goes well, construction of headquarters at Joy Hill Estate will be started in the next few days.

BPC sources said that until 1976, BPC was a subsidiary of Petrobangla. BPC was formed on January 1, 1977 through a separate ordinance. The headquarters and depots of the country's state-owned fuel oil marketing companies were relocated to Chittagong in 1989 due to the government's decentralization policy and decentralization policy. In the beginning, BPC operated the headquarters of the House Building Finance Corporation in Agrabad city. Later, the BPC is proceeding with the second floor rent of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation headquarters opposite Saltgola port building. For a long time, after renting an office in a rented building, BPC owns one of the city's unique beautiful Joy Hill estates. The natural beauty of the 36-acre area encompasses the natural beauty. BPC is going to establish a head office in this unique beautiful area. About three decades after its founding, BPC took the initiative. At the BPC board meeting, the initial approval of the 20-storey high-rise building was approved. It is hoped that the building will be constructed within three years.

On March 6 this year, it issued notification for the appointment of consultants. 7 organizations apply with interest. Later on May 29, four organizations were instructed to give conceptual designs. Already two organizations have visited the project area. The other two organizations have been requested by the BPC to visit the project area. Later on October 2, two companies submitted conceptual designs. Proposal two are currently in the evaluation phase.

BPC, the only fuel oil regulator in the country, imports at least 5 million tonnes of oil a year from abroad. The refined and crude oil is marketed through Padma Oil Company Ltd., Meghna Petroleum Company Ltd. and Jamuna Oil Company Limited.

An official of the BPC said that the Ministry of Finance allocates Tk 100 crore in the last 2018-19 financial years for the Tk 150 crore allocated for the 20-storey building. The implementation period of the project is fixed from July 2018 to June 2020. The 20-storey building will have all the facilities needed for a company's head office. BPC General Manager (Planning and Development) Engineer Mohammad Rashed Kausar Bangladesh Post said, "Conceptual design suggestions received from the two organizations have not been evaluated yet."

He said that since 1999 BPC has taken initiative to construct its own building. The construction of the building was started in 2011. It was also said that the construction of the building would be completed in 2013. But didn't. Later, the initiative was taken in 2016, setting the construction cost of the building at Tk 50 crore. Construction of the last building was expected to be completed in 2019, but it did not. This time, the new building is being constructed at a cost of Tk 150 crore. He said he hoped that the building would be completed in 2021, if everything went well.
