Boro paddy farming exceeds target in Khulna

The Boro paddy cultivation has exceeded the target by 102 percent with bringing additional 5,810 hectors of land under cultivation in the current season inKhulna Agriculture Region.

During the current fiscal year 2022-23, the Department of Agricultural Extension  (DAE) had set a plantation target of 2.50-lakh hectares of land which is exceeded   by 2.56-lakh hectares of land and the production target of 10.88-lakh tones of clean    Boro exceeded by 11.14-lakh tones exceeded by102%, DAE Deputy Director Hafizur Rahman said. During the current fiscal year 2022-23, the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) had set a plantation target of 2.50-lakh hectares of land which is exceeded by 2.56-lakh hectares of land and the production target of 10.88-lakh tones of clean Boro has been exceeded by 11.14-lakh tones, said DAE Additional Director Faridul Hasan.

In Khulna, farmers cultivated 2.80-lakh clean Boro paddy on 63,790 hectares of land where the fixed target was 62,800 hectares of land, exceeded by 101.58 percent of the fixed farming target.

In Bagerhat, farmers cultivated 2.75-lakh clean Boro paddy on62169 hectares of land where the fixed target was 59,650 hectares of land, exceeded by 104.22 percent of the fixed farming target.

In Satkhira, farmers cultivated 3.12-lakh clean Boro paddy on 79,526 hectares of land where the fixed target was 77,250 hectares of land, exceeded by 102.95 percent of the fixed farming target.

In Narail, farmers cultivated 2.21-lakh clean Boro paddy on 50,025 hectares of land where the fixed target was 50,000hectares of land, exceeded by 100.05 percent of the fixed farming target.

Due to proper rain during the seedling’s transplantation period in the Khulna region, farmers could able to exceed the cultivation target, said an agriculture officer Subir Kumar Biswas of Kalia Upazila under Narail District.

In the current fiscal year, 16,500 hectares of Boro paddy cultivation in Kalia Upazila has been fulfilled. Now, at every block level systematic application of pesticides, fungicides, and fertilizers have been used properly. If the weather is favorable from all sides, we will be able to exceed the target of production. 

Technical assistance and continuous supervision of the farmers at the field level are ongoing in a proper way, he added.
