Information Minister and Awami League joint general secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud has advised the BNP leaders to take a look at the world situation by instead of being limited to the four walls of the office.

The minister made the suggestion in response to a question from reporters about BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi's remarks on electricity during an exchange of views with reporters at his residence at Dewanji Pukurpara in the port city of Chittagong on Tuesday. Earlier, he held a meeting with the representatives of the authorities implementing the waterlogging project in Chittagong city.

Dr Hassan said people have now been able to go to their respective destinations in relief to celebrate the holy Eid-ul-Azha. People have celebrated Eid-ul-Azha with great enthusiasm while maintaining Islamic solemnity. The self-sufficiency we have achieved in the case of the sacrificial animal has become even clearer this time. Because it goes without saying that Indian cows did not come this time.

The Broadcasting Minister said that due to the strict position and decision of the government, no animal could enter the country through the border so that the farmers of our country could benefit. In this case, the country has become self-sufficient. In fact, our country is the 92nd country in the world in terms of size. But we are one of the top countries in the world in terms of production. We are third in the world in rice production, third in freshwater fish production, fourth in vegetable production and seventh in potato production.

He said it has been possible to meet the demand of Eid-ul-Azha with cows and goats of our country. Many cows and goats have not been sold and have returned. That is, there was more supply than demand. These have been possible due to the various policies of the government.

The minister said, “The whole world, even the most economically capable countries, is using electricity economically. The Prime Minister has called for saving electricity in the same way. Those who could not provide electricity to their homes, shot and killed the protesters in Kansat demanding electricity, have no right to talk about electricity. In fact, BNP does not have any issue, so it has to say something, that is why it speaks.

"There is pandemic going on in the world, the war in Ukraine has created an economic crisis in the world," he said. As the Padma Bridge has been built under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, leaving all obstacles and conspiracies behind, the journey towards prosperity of the country will continue even in this time of crisis of the world. The country will reach the dream address of Bangabandhu under the leadership of Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina. We have made that prayer on the occasion of Holy Eid, expecting the same today.

Replying to a question on waterlogging in Chittagong city, the minister said the Prime Minister has allocated around Tk 11,000 crore for three projects to alleviate waterlogging in Chittagong. It is the responsibility of those who are implementing these projects to utilize this money and work in a coordinated manner. I have always been urging those who are implementing waterlogging projects.

Mentioning that the minister himself has grown up in Chittagong city through waterlogging, Hasan Mahmud said, "People had expected that since the waterlogging project is being implemented this time, the water level will be less than last time." Since the waterlogging project is not fully implemented, people are not getting the benefits yet. When the rainy season is over so that when the work starts it will end quickly.
