BNP regime neglected Mongla port development: Khaleque

Khulna City Corporation Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque has said while BNP government was in power, we demanded capital dredging for the development of Mongla Port but the then BNP government had no intention to develop the port. They were completely indifferent to the development of the port."

KCC Mayor was speaking as the chief guest at the installation ceremony of the newly elected members of Stevdoring Watchmen Welfare Association of Mongla Port on Saturday.  Presided over by Sheikh Kamaruzzaman Jasim, the function was attended, among others, by Mongla Upazila Chairman Abu Taher Howlader, General Secretary of Upazila Awami League Ibrahim Hossain, President of Municipal AL Sheikhj Abdur Rahman and President of Mongla Press Club Hossain Muhammad Dulal. 

KCC Mayor Taluder Abdul Khaleque further said, ' nearly 70 per cent people surrounding the port were involved with BNP then. There were many BNP high-ups including central leaders and cabinet members but they did not have any interest to develop the port and did not take any step for infrastructure development of the port. During BNP reign, BNP snatched away the seat of Magura in the by-election through vote-rigging.  That is, the culture of poll rigging starts during the BNP regime.
