BNP faces worst crisis

BNP is now passing through the worst crisis since its foundation, as the party’s top leaders cannot cope anymore with the central command in exile. The most senior BNP leaders have become exhausted with the acting chairperson Tareque Zia’s behaviour, attitude, decision-making process and the way he handles the party.

Since the party is not in power for over a decade, the leaders are not worried about party posts and financial benefits that ruling party leaders usually get. Moreover, the senior leaders, because of their position and connections with different persons and agencies, are rest assured that the party is not coming back to power in near future.

It is assumed that within 10 years, most of those top BNP leaders might expire because of their age and health condition, and for that reason they are becoming increasingly worried about the future of their businesses and other interests. As a result, the process of defection from the party has started, and the senior BNP leaders are reportedly communicating with top government leaders. Some senior leaders are going to launch the ‘Tareque Zia boycott’ move in protest against the increasing audacity of self-exiled BNP acting chairman Tareque Zia.

After the recent resignations of former foreign minister M Morshed Khan and BNP standing committee member Lt General Mahbubur Rahman, at least five current vicechairmen of the BNP are going to resign very soon. For a long time, they had been propagating that Tareque Zia should resign for saving the BNP, where they were founder members. As their request were went in vain, they now are going to resign from the party and have vowed to start the ‘Boycott Tareque’ program in a bid to save the BNP from the ruination, a senior BNP leader on condition of anonymity said.

BNP insiders disclosed that Tareque Zia often misbehaves with most of BNP senior leaders who joined the party during his father Ziaur Rahman’s rule. Even he uses abusive words during his conversions with senior BNP leaders through skype on silly excuse. Considering all these factors, some influential BNP leaders including five prominent vicechairmen are going to resign from the party very soon. Confidential sources said BNP vice-chairmen Major ( retd) Hafiz Uddin, Air-vice marshal ( rtd) Alfat Hossain Chowdhury, Barrister Shajahan Omar and Abdullah Al Noman are going to resign from the party very soon in protest against Tareque Zia’s unpardonable audacity.

They said it is meaningless to continue with the BNP, if Tareque Zia is there. They opined that Tareque Zia is only responsible for the devastating situation of BNP after the one eleven changeover. It is same for them to commit suicides and doing the BNP politics under the leadership of Tareque Zia, another vicechairman said. Responding to a question, indicating Tareque Zia he also said, “He (Tarique) has no feeling for his own mother Khaleda Zia, how he can feel for the party and its’ leaders and activists.”
