Professor Dr. Mamun-Al-Mahtab Shwapnil, chief of the Department of Interventional Hepatology at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU); said that it is part of an attempt to destabilize the country.
Coming down heavily on Prothom Alo for the news item it ran online on March 26, he said, “The news item was false, fabricated, and had ill intention.”
Talking to Bangladesh Post, Dr. Shwapnil said that publication of such news item is not within the right of freedom of press and freedom of flow of information. The controversial news item of Prothom Alo, however, will undermine the honest journalism in the country if action is not taken against such incident.
He described such news item on Independence Day as a conspiracy against the country’s independence similar to the fake photo of Basanti which was published in the Daily Ittefaq in 1974, where she was wearing a fishing net as clothes.
