Bangladesh and Switzerland will hold bilateral talk on matters regarding migration, the first of its kind between the two countries, on Wednesday, reports BSS.

The objective of the meeting is to discuss about bilateral cooperation in the area of migration as well as to exchange views on regional and multilateral processes related to labour movement. A Swiss delegation led by Ambassador Vincenzo Mascioli, Director International Cooperation, State Secretariat for Migration, Federal Department of Justice and Police of Switzerland, will visit Bangladesh from September 10 to 12 in this regard, said a press release of Swiss embassy in the capital on Monday.

It said Switzerland is working with Bangladesh at local, national and global levels to facilitate a safer migration experience for the country’s workforce, intending to go abroad as overseas employment is an important instrument for Bangladesh to address the growing needs for employment and job creation.

During the visit, the Swiss delegation will also meet with the representatives of the Bangladeshi civil society, diplomatic community and development agencies. Besides, the delegation is scheduled to travel to Narsingdi district on Thursday to visit a project named ‘Return and Reintegration of Migrant Workers in Bangladesh’, implemented by BRAC with the financial assistance of Switzerland and Denmark.

The project aims to make reintegration economically and socially sustainable for returnee migrants, so that they do not feel obliged to re- migrate, said the release.
