BCG arrest 7 Myanmar nationals with 280,000 Yaba pills

Bangladesh Coast Station Teknaf conducted an operation at the sea near Katabunia area of Shahpori Island under Teknaf Police Station in Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday midnight and arrested 7 Myanmar nationals along with 2,80,000 pieces of yaba pills.

Lt. Commander M Hamidul Islam, Media Officer of Bangladesh Coast Guard Headquarters informed this on Wednesday.

Lt. Commander M Hamidul Islam said, BCG received secret information that yaba tablets will be smuggled into Bangladesh from Myanmar. So, Coast Guard members took position for the operation in the area. 

During the operation, a wooden boat was seen coming from Myanmar border to Bangladesh border. The boat was chased and detained as their movements seemed suspicious. Later, the boat was searched and 2,80,000 pieces of yaba hidden tactfully were recovered while, 7 Myanmar nationals were detained.

It is known that all of them are citizens of Myanmar and they have been smuggling yaba by sea for a long time. The arrested yaba smugglers were later handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station for legal action along with the seized yaba and the wooden boat.

He further said that Bangladesh Coast Guard has adopted zero tolerance policy in the areas covered by them to ensure law and order, public safety as well as to prevent piracy, robbery and control drug. Regular operations are continuing and will continue in the future as well, he added.
