Bashundhara defeat Abahani in prestigious encounter

A couple of goals from Miguel Damasena helped Bashindhara Kings to beat Abahani Limited in a prestigious match by 2-1 to finish the first leg as unbeaten in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League Football on Friday.       

Abahani Limited slipped to another defeat when they suffered the fourth out of their nine matches after going down to Bashundhara Kiongs at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Stadium, Cumilla on Friday. After winning the match Bashundhara Kings won all 10 matches fo the first leg of the league to earn full 30 points.   

Miguel Damasena led Bashindhara in the 26th minute when veteran Rezaul equalized on 35th.

In the Abahani domination first half Bashindhara Kings took the lead almost against the flow of the game on 26th minute. Abahani could have the lead on 24th minute but a close range header of Elita Kingsley on a lofted cross from the right side by Maraz narrowly missed the cross piece.  

But the Kings, after getting rid of the huge pressure went ahead two minutes later through Miguel Damasena with an unfortunate goal when from an ordinary move Robson cross the ball in the box for unmarked Miguel who did not make any mistake to send the ball into far post beyond the reach of goalkeeper Shahidul Alam Sohel (1-0).

But Abahani, who have been playing with better control from the kick off, after conceding the goal stepped up and put Abahani in tremendous pressure with constant attacks and went closer for twice to level the margin.

Peter failed to convert the first chance on 28th minute when receiving the ball from a Maraz through pass, the forward having Kings’ keeper Zico one-on-one position failed to beat him.   Another good chance was saved by king’s keeper Zico at the cost of a corner when a pinpoint header on Deniel Colindres was just on the way to top corner of the net.

Abahani kept up their pressure and drew the level on 37th and this time Colindres floated in the ball from a left corner and the ball looped off Elita’s head before into the back of the net (1-1). Abahani had to take the game to King, but were unable to carve out many first-half opportunities, as the champions defended resolutely and Abahani could not capitalized their domination throughout the opening 45 minutes.    

After the re-start, Oscar Bruzon’s men had a golden chance to double the lead on 74th when Robson volleyed the ball wide over the cross bar after having the chance inside the area with Dorielton assisted him with a header on a left side cross from Rakib.

But the Kings increased the lead on 77th minute and this time it was fully a result of blunders of Abahani defenders when the stopper back Reza left open space inside the box, Miguel having the ball possession beating Sohel Rana and had no trouble to beat keeper Shahidul Alam Sohel (2-0.
