Layered cloth masks are now essential worldwide for personal protection against the raging coronavirus epidemic. According to guidelines and regulations set forth by the UN and WHO, countries are rushing to produce face masks in abundance. And above it all, Bangladesh has set the best standard of producing masks using the advice provided by international organisations.

A report published in this daily projected that standards have been developed in coordination with the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) and with the technical advice from WHO, which led a working group of local PPE experts supported by USAID, JICA, BUET, icddr,b and FAO.

This elaborate goal to produce appropriate and standard masks for people around the world is well appreciated. We also thank the government for engaging a vast range of experts to coordinate the production of these masks.

The participation of NGOs which are aiming to

become involved in producing washable and

reusable masks is also welcomed

The report also emphasised the participation of NGOs which are aiming to become involved in producing washable and reusable masks. This is also welcomed and appreciated as the efforts of the NGOs will work to resolve mask crisis around the world post-haste.

Moreover, with the UN working to support the standard of mask production, it is important to begin information campaigns that will increase awareness about the importance and correct usage of masks. Since people use masks as more of an accessory rather than a piece of equipment meant for protection, it is necessary to ensure that people are aware of how to use masks properly in this epidemic.

Before this, there were worries among people about what type of masks should be used and as a result many wasted a lot of money for buying expensive masks that were not necessary.

This set standard will ensure that even the grassroots-level people will also be able to avail masks at reasonable prices and also be aware rather than being ignorant of the consequences.
