Bangladesh ease past UAE

Bangladesh U 19 women’s football team beat United Arab Emirates (UAE) by 2-0 to  kick off the inaugural match Bangamata U-19 Women’s International Gold Cup at the Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday.

The girls in red and green started the first half in an aggressive manner. Scoring chance came in first minute of the match. UAE defended that situation and kept Bangladesh away from scoring. However, UAE’s resistance did not last long as Bangladesh scored the first goal in 11th minute of the match. In the 11th minute of the match, Midfielder Mosammat Khatun’s delightful lofted ball from midfield cut opened UAE’s defense. Her ball found forward Mosammat Shopna who was one on one with UAE’s goalkeeper and finished the move with a side footed finish.  Bangladesh kept on going as UAE girls were already looking tired and exhausted. Bangladesh then doubled their lead from a corner during 29th minute as Srimoti Sarkar’s header found the back of the net. Bangladesh girls got more chance to extend their advantage before half time but could not capitalise on the chances made.

Second half started in the same fashion, Shopna got a great chance in the 50th minute to make it three but she missed a one on one opportunity and put the ball straight onto UAE goalkeeper. Chances kept on coming but Bangladesh couldn’t find the end product. Player’s body language seemed to be a bit complacent. No more goals were scored as UAE showed resolute defending to deny Bangladesh.

The group’s other team, Kyrgyzstan, are considered to be the weakest of the three. Therefore Bangladesh are strong favorites to qualify as group champions.
