Reigning champions Bangladesh kicked off their SAFF U-15 Championship 2019 campaign with a dominating 5-2 victory over Bhutan at the Kalyani Stadium in the Nadia district of West Bengal, India Friday, report agencies.

Midfielder Shuvo Sarkar came off the bench in the 43rd minute and gave his side the lead again within two minutes as Bangladesh found it easier to penetrate Bhutan defence at the latter stage of the game.

Mirad scored a brilliant goal in the 80th minute to extend the lead before substitute midfielder Emon Islam Babu netted the fifth goal from a free-kick in the injury time to seal the victory. Bangladesh will take on Sri Lanka in their second game at the same venue on Sunday before facing Nepal and India on August 27 and 29 respectively.

In a post-match briefing, forward Al Mirad said, “I feel good today. After the first half, the coach told us to put pressure on the opponents and avoid conceding goals. We just followed his instructions. We’ll do the same thing in the next match against Sri Lanka.”

In day’s second match, Nepal defeated Sri Lanka by 2-0 goals at the same venue.
