A sculpture of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is going to be installed at the capital’s Dholaipar within this December, the month of victory.

According to sources, the works for the installation of the sculpture of Bangabandhu is nearing completion and the sculpture made from China has already arrived in the country.

Officials concerned said that the sculpture was supposed to be installed on March 26, this year. But, all the activities could not be done on time due to Covid-19 pandemic.

It should be mentioned that the sculpture of Bangabandhu is being installed at Dholaipar junction, the south part of Dhaka, as part of the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway project.

Sabuj Uddin Khan, director of the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway project, expressed his hope as saying that the sculpture of Bangabandhu would be inaugurated in this month. The sculpture, which has been made from China, is almost ready for installation.

“Made of heavy metal in China, it will be an iconic and eye-catching sculpture. The sculpture will be visible from far distance for its taller size”, said the project director.

The project director also said the sculpture has been made from China as the dice needed to make it is not available in Bangladesh. This is a specially made sculpture, it will be visible only after it is opened to all.

He also said that the installation and inauguration of the sculpture is now just waiting for the approval by the Bangabandhu Memorial Trust.

“The project at a cost of Tk 9 crore is being implemented by the Bangladesh Army. It has been made from China, but it would be assembled in Dhaka”, Project Director Sabuj Uddin Khan added.

During a random visit to the spot, it has been seen that the works for the installation of the Bangabandhu sculpture was going on in full swing. The sculpture will be installed on a high round stage at Dholaipar corner of the capital. The place is now surrounded by high structures.

Unfortunately, several fundamentalist groups and anti-liberation forces are said to have been trying to create anarchy and instable the situation of the country in the name of protest against sculpture. They are also trying to destroy the secular sprit of the people of the country as well as of the government.

As part of their ill-attempts they are trying to bring out processions and hue and cries in different ways. They are also using different social media like youtube and facebook taking advantages of the information and communication technologies (ICT).

Not only that they already have damaged an under-construction sculpture of Bangabandhu in Kushtia district.

But, the government is firm on its decision to install the sculpture of the Father of the Nation as part of the history and heritage of the Bengali Nation.

The government has also decided not to spare those who are trying to tarnish the image of the country and its independence.
