Bangabandhu Satellite provides early alerts: Hanif

Awami League acting general secretary Mahbub-ul- Alam Hanif said all out preparation to tackle cyclone Fani could be made due to receiving of advance information through the Bangabandhu Satellite. Hanif also claimed that the damages were the least due to technical assistances from the Bangabandhu Satellite in advance.

He made this remark after observing the activities of party’s monitoring cell for Fani at a press conference at AL President Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi political office in the capital on Saturday. Prime Minister herself is also monitoring round the clock from abroad, he added. “Besides, all the government institutions worked in a coordinated way to tackle the losses due to the cyclone,” he added.

Mentionable, Fani hit different parts of Bangladesh from Saturday morning to evening, leaving eight dead and wreaking havoc on vast amount of croplands.
He said, “On behalf of the countrymen, we thank Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. During her last ten years rule, development could be achieved in all the sectors.”

Hanif further said, “The launching of Bangabandhu Satellite was one of the major development projects. Due to this Satellite, our forecasting office was able to gather advance information about Fani, which originated two thousand miles away from the Bay of Bengal.” He claimed that due to the, adequate preparation by the government along with the party, the damage was minimized.

All government organizations are working in a well-coordinated way to face the damages caused from Fani, he stated. Describing the activities of party’s monitoring cell on Fani, Hanif said, “So far, the monitoring cell received one hundred phone calls requesting various information about Fani.” BSS adds: Mahbub-Ul-Alam Hanif said AL will take part in the rehabilitation works for victims of cyclone Fani side by side with the government efforts.

“We are gathering information about the affected people from across the country . . . along with the government efforts, AL will work to rehabilitate the cyclone victims,” he added. The senior AL leader added: “Awami League teams will visit different disaster-affected areas and AL will help the government to rehabilitate the affected families.

Replying to a query, Hanif said in real sense BNP is detached from the politics and their leaders are involved in intra-party feud. That’s why they are spreading falsehood against the government over the disaster’s preparedness, he added. AL joint general secretary and education minister Dr Dipu Moni, Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak, party organizing secretary and Jatiya Sangsad’s whip Abu Sayeed Al-Mahmud Swapon, organizing secretary and deputy water resources minister AKM Enamul Haque Shamim, relief and social welfare secretary Sujit Ray Nandi, information and research secretary Advocate Afzal Hossain, health affairs secretary Dr Rokeya Sultana, forest and environment secretary Delwar Hossain and deputy office secretary Barrister Biplob Barua, among others, were present there.
