Two people have been detained on charge of attempt to rape an Australian female tourist in Cox’s Bazar. The incident took place at Mermaid Beach Resort at Pechar Dwip under Ramu upazila in the district on Monday night. One of the detainees is brother of owner of the resort.
According to police, the Australian woman faced the incident while she was sleeping in her cottage. At that time, she called the emergency number 999, seeking police assistance. Later, a team from Ramu Police Station rushed to the spot and rescued the female tourist.
The woman received injury during the struggle. She was taken to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for treatment.
Abul Khair, Officer-in Charge (OC) of Ramu Police Station, said that on suspicion of being involved two people have been detained including Shamimul Haque Sam, brother of the owner of Mermaid Anisul Haque Sohag,.
The OC said that it victim or the Australian High Commission files any case in this connection, necessary steps will be taken in this connection. Otherwise, the police will record a case to take legal action.
