Bangladesh Army chief General Aziz Ahmed on Thursday said Bangladesh Army is fully prepared to face the severe cyclonic storm Fani, which is likely to hit the country this evening. He made this remark while talking to journalists after attending different programmes at Savar Cantonment. General Aziz said, “Bangladesh Army has been kept on high alert to combat severe cyclonic storm Fani.” He went on saying, “Army does not wait for any advance instruction for combating any disaster because army has been instructed permanently what to in this regard.”
“All divisions and area headquarters have been kept prepared,” General Aziz continued, “Divisions concerned of Bangladesh Army has already established communication with the civil administration” “We have taken adequate preparation to protect ourselves. Bangladesh Army is fully ready to discharge duties before the disaster, during the disaster and after the disaster,” General Aziz said.
The army chief later inaugurated a hockey turf, laid foundation stone of the Army Institute of Business Administration in Savar Cantonment. He also visited the construction works of JCOS quarter Sena Naboni. A firing competition of Bangladesh Army was also held at small arms firing range of Savar Cantonment on Thursday, said an ISPR press release. Army chief General Aziz Ahmed attended the competition as chief guest. He also distributed prizes among the winners.
He also awarded ‘insignia’ as the best firers of army to the eight best firers in the completion. A total of 15 groups participated n the firing completion. 6th Independent Air Defence Artillery Brigade was the champion while 24 Bengal Division was runners-up. Soldier Md Abdullah Al Mamun of the 9th Bengal Regiment was the best firer while Lance Corporal Md Ashrafuzaaman was the second best firer.
