Army always ready to make highest sacrifice for motherland: Gen Aziz

Chief of Army Staff General Aziz Ahmed  on Tuesday said the army must always be ready to make the highest sacrifices to protect the motherland and to meat the national needs.

He said this while speaking on the occasion of awarding regimental colour to four units of Bangladesh Army in Jashore Cantonment, said ISPR.

The 16th and 17th Engineer Construction Battalion and 10th and 11th Signal Battalion of Bangladesh Army participated in  the colour parade and received the regimental flag from the chief guest.

Major General Md Nurul Anwar, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 55 Infantry Division of Bangladesh Army, welcomed the Chief of Army Staff when he reached at the STC & S Parade Ground in Jashore Cantonment.

Then, a smart contingent led by Parade Commander Lt Col Md Sahabuddin paraded and saluted the Chief of Army Staff.

The regimental colour is awarded to a unit or regiment in recognition of its heroic contribution to the great War of Independence, relentless efforts to establish peace in the Chattogram Hill Tracts, important contribution to the formation of the country and nation and success in various training and operational activities.

At the beginning of his speech, the Chief of Army Staff paid deep homage to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the greatest Bengali nation of all time. 

At the same time, he paid his deep respects to all the heroic freedom fighters, including the seven great heroes of the liberation war, in return for their sacrifices, much-desired freedom has been achieved.

He said that due to the dedicated efforts of Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh Army today stands tall as a modern, up-to-date and vigilant force. 

He expressed his sincere gratitude to the Prime Minister for this groundbreaking initiative.

Chief of Army Staff handed over regimental colour to 4 units of Bangladesh Army

Chief of Army Staff congratulated the units that received the regimental colour and said that receipt of the regimental colour is was a rare honour and sacred deposit for any unit.

This rare achievement on the occasion of the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation and the golden jubilee of independence is undoubtedly even more glorious and joyful, he added.

He also directed the units to be ready to uphold the dignity of the flag received in recognition of their efficiency, hard work and devotion to duty and to accept the highest sacrifice in any need of the motherland.

“Bangladesh Army has been making significant contribution to the socio-economic and infrastructural development of the country, including defending the sovereignty as well as dealing with natural and man-made disasters,” said General Aziz.

He further said in the same manner, the army must always be ready to accept the highest sacrifices in the future to protect the integrity of the motherland and the national needs.

He instructed all the members of the army to come forward in any joint effort of the country.

Finally, Chief of Army Staff thanked all concerned for displaying an orderly, pleasant and colorful parade on the occasion of giving the regimental color.

The function was attended by senior army personnel and members of the army of various ranks.
