Archaeologist Dr Enamul Haque’s death a pain for the nation: Hasan

Prominent historian, archaeologist and art researcher Dr Enamul Haque's death is a tragedy for the nation, said Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud.

On Thursday afternoon at the National Museum premises in the capital, the minister told reporters after laying a wreath at the coffin of Muhammad Enamul Haque. It is to be mentioned that Dr Enamul Haque died at his residence in the capital on July 10. He was 65 years old.

The minister said that the receiver of the country's highest civilian medal, the Independence Medal, the Ekushey Medal, India's Padma Shri medal Dr Enamul Haque was a good man. He was the Director General of the National Museum for many years and before that, he was also the Director of the Dhaka Museum. He has not only contributed to the country, but also represent Bangladesh in many foreign countries.

Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud expressed deep grief and respect over the death of archaeologist Enamul Haque, prayed for the forgiveness of the departed soul and prayed to the Creator so that his family could bear the grief. The minister said that there is a lot to learn from Dr Enamul Haque's life. Those who have learned from him will be able to contribute to the national life.

Earlier, the Minister of Education Dr Dipu Moni in her speech prayed for the forgiveness of Enamul Huq's soul. 

The minister said that Dr Enamul Haque was such a good man and he was very good-natured. The archeological society of the country is indebted to him in many ways.

Poet Trina Haque, daughter of the late Enamul Haque, President of the Board of Directors of the National Museum and former Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Professor Arefin Siddique, Director General of the National Museum Kamruzzaman, director Shihab Shahriar, Trustee of the Public Health Center Jafrullah Chowdhury, Mahbub Alam, Director of the International Center for the Study of Bengali Art expressed their feelings at this time. 

After the guard of honor of the district administration and after the prayer ceremony, his body was taken to his district town Bogura by the relatives of the deceased.

In the afternoon, the Minister presided over the meeting to finalize the program of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and its subordinate departments to observe the National Mourning Day 2022 with due dignity on the 47th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The programme of National Mourning Day on 15th August was finalized in a massive preparatory meeting including presentation to the media and the public, special programs on radio and television, publication of posters on the occasion of the day and distribution at home and abroad. The meeting was chaired by Secretary Maqbool Hossain and was attended by the heads of all the departments concerned in the ministry.
