We convey our heartiest felicitations and warmest greetings to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the auspicious occasion of the 75th founding anniversary of her party Bangladesh Awami League (AL). We also greet the country’s oldest and largest political party as its diamond jubilee is being celebrated across the country today (Sunday).
Under the bold leadership of AL President Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh is now developing fast. Sheikh Hasina, elder daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, vowed that her party would take the country towards prosperity foiling all the conspiracies so that the people can lead a better life.
Let us build a poverty and hunger-free “Sonar Bangla” as dreamt by Bangabandhu. As conspiracies are still being hatched in the country, we the people imbued with the spirit of Liberation War have to thwart them.
The party was established on June 23, 1949 as Awami Muslim League at Rose Garden in the capital’s old town. But later it was renamed Bangladesh Awami League to have a secular look. The AL is one of the oldest, largest and leading political parties in the country. And the work of building a secular Bangladesh was first initiated by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
At the time of its establishment, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was in jail and he was made joint general secretary of the party. Since its inception, the party has been struggling to establish democracy, socialism and secularism alongside working for ensuring the rights of the masses and their economic emancipation to date.
The Bangali nation believes the AL and Sheikh Mujibur Rahman were involved in all the democratic movements and great achievements of the country, including the historic language movement and Liberation War. After a nine-month Liberation War in 1971 under the leadership of Sheikh Mujib, we have finally achieved an independent and sovereign Bangladesh.
Since then, the anti-liberation and evil forces continued plotting to destroy the spirit of independence, sovereignty, democracy and Liberation War, to perpetuate murder, conspiracy, militancy and misrule by unleashing a reign of terror and violence and making the oldest political party leaderless. As part of their blueprint, they assassinated Bangabandhu and most of his family members on the fateful night of August 15, 1975.
Under the bold leadership
of AL President Sheikh
Hasina, Bangladesh is
now developing fast
The anti-liberation and evil forces also launched grisly grenade attack on an AL anti-terrorism rally in capital Dhaka on August 21, 2004 to kill Bangabandhu’s daughter, the then opposition leader and incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in order to bankrupt the party leadership during the BNP-Jamaat alliance government.
With the grace of the Almighty Allah, Sheikh Hasina narrowly escaped the carnage. After overcoming different hurdles, the party has obtained a new life arising from the ashes of its predecessors, and made a remarkable progress in different sectors, including agriculture, education, food security, social safety, infrastructural development, power, employment, investment and women rights.
Under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Sheikh Hasina, the party is turning the country into a developed and prosperous nation. On the occasion of 75th founding anniversary of the ruling AL, we believe the party will always stand by the people as it does politics for the welfare of the people.
We also believe under the leadership of AL President Sheikh Hasina, we can build a Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Bangabandhu. Apart from gaining independence, we also think the party has contributed to achieving global dignity as the Bangali nation, attaining self-identity, establishing the dignity of the mother tongue Bangla and earning recognition as a role model of development for the country.
