An Awami League leader was slaughtered to death at Sharsha upazila of Jashore on Tuesday evening.  The deceased was identified as Anisur Rahman, 45, son of Moslem Uddin of Koralkhali village under Nizampur union of Sharsha upazila. He was an aspirant for the post of president of AL unit of ward no 4 of Nizampur union.

Chairman of the Nizampur Union Parishad Abul Kalam said Anisur Rahman was sitting at Sohrab’s tea shop in Mollapara area in the upazila, while Nasir Uddin, son of Hamza Ali, coming from behind hit him on the shoulder with a Chinese axe. Nasir then hit Anisur several times with a hammer and fled away.  Anisur was rescued and taken to hospital where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Acting Officer-in-Charge of Sharsha Police Station Ataur Rahman said Anisur might have been killed due to previous enmity. After a primary investigation the actual truth will be revealed.
