AL candidate wins Jashore Municipality polls

Awami League (AL) nominated candidate, district AL vice-president freedom fighter Haider Gani Khan Palash was elected as the mayor of Jashore Municipality. District Senior Election Officer and Returning Officer of Jashore Municipality elections Md Humayun Kabir declared the results in the town on Wednesday night.

The elections were held peacefully with strict law and order situation from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in EVM system, he said. 

District election office sources said, Haider Gani Khan Palash with Awami League’s boat symbol got 32,902 votes in the polls while nearest rival candidate Mohammad Ali Sarder with the ‘hand fan’ symbol of Islami Andalon Bangladesh Party bagged 13,124 votes. BNP nominated candidate former Mayor Maruful Islam with the Paddy sheaf symbol got 6,757 votes.A total of 1 lakh 46 thousand 594 voters were registered from the Municipality. 72 thousand 45 voters are male and 74, 549 voters are female of the total voters. A total of 53 thousand 96 voters casted their vote, sources said.

Meanwhile, Saidur Rahman Ripon won as ward councilor in ward no 1, Rashed Abbas Raj in ward no 2, Moksimul Bari Apu in ward no 3,  Zahid Hossain Milon in ward no 4, Rajibul Alom in ward no 5, Alomgir Kabir Sumon in  ward no 6, Shahed Hossen Nayon in  ward no 7, Prodip Kumar Nath Bablu in ward no 8 and Advocate Asaduzzaman won as ward councilor in ward no 9. 

Ayrin Parvin Daizy won as woman councilor in reserved seat in ward no1, Nasima Akter Joly in reserved seat in ward no 2 and Rokeya Parvin Doly won as woman councillor in reserved seat in ward no 3.
