The alleged murderer of the slain domestic help Ayesha Akter was arrested on Saturday following a case filed by the victim’s family. Earlier the family members of the victim had lodged a case accusing her former husband Jasim Uddin after her body was recovered two weeks ago. Police also detained her husband for interrogation. Following a thorough investigation from the city’s Sayedabad area, the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Saturday arrested the actual killer identified as Nazmul.
Speaking to Bangladesh Post, Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Shajahan Shaju confirmed the arrest on Sunday. He said that a team of DB led by ADC Md Golam Saklain Sithil of Gulshan Zonal under the DB’s East Division arrested the accused in connection with the gruesome murder. ADC Saklain said, “We also seized sedative medicines, GI cable, which were used in the murder.”
According to the DB officials, victim Ayesha was a twenty-eight years old housewife. She had two children— the son is twelve years old while the daughter is eight years old. Police sources informed that her husband was a truck driver. Two years ago, he had left her after marrying again. Now they live in Tangail district. After getting divorced two years ago, she started working as domestic help for survival with her children.
She was staying with her two children after renting a single room in the city’s Vatara area. Suddenly she became desperate to get back to her former husband.
Nazmul, the accused murderer, who is also a private car driver, had illicit relations with Ayesha and often blackmailed her. To pursue her to deny going back to her former husband, Nazmul often made up negative stories about her former husband so she develops hate against him. He told Ayesha that her former husband Jashim had married for the second time because black magician had trapped her by his black magic.
Ayesha then sought the help of Nazmul to get rid of the so-called black magic. Nazmul raped her again and again. He also took a huge amount of money from her in the name of helping her to be reunited with her former husband. On the night of the incident, Nazmul entered into the room of the victim. Nazmul tried to rape her on that night. But Ayesha refused repeatedly. She had threatened to disclose that Nazmul is continuously raping her and took money. In spite of these, he failed to take her back to her husband.
Nazrul feared that Ayesha would disclose his misdeeds to everyone and soon planned to kill her. As Nazrul was also married and feared the news would also reach his wife, he wasted no time and strangulated her to death. Nazmul managed to escape. Ayesha’s family members had suspected that her former husband and his new wife were behind the murder. They accused them of the case filed in connection with the murder. But DB personnel came to know that actually, Nazmul was the killer. ADC Saklain said, “Nazmul is also a drug (yaba) dealer. He had already described how he killed Ayesha.”
