Corruption in the health sector has been a talk of the town in recent times. With the detention of Regent Hospital’s Shahed, Parvez, Sabrina and a number of other officials it needs no other proof to draw the conclusion that the health sector in the country has been suffering from cancerous tumors of corruption.

The capture and prosecution of such people who are tarnishing the image of our country gives people from all walks of life a sigh of relief.

Such commendable steps to curb corruption and irregularities will definitely boost the morale of other professionals who are performing their duties with complete dedication and integrity.

We have also seen irregularities in the purchase of medical equipment that are essential for fighting against coronavirus. However, it is encouraging to know that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has taken initiative to investigate the recent corruption scandals centering purchase of medical equipment, face masks, hand gloves and personal protective equipment (PPE). This is a problem that is causing many problems in the sector as there are reports which point towards syndicates being active in controlling such medical supplies.

Immediate arrest of such individuals

and proper prosecution can set an

example before the countrymen

It is important to unearth these syndicates and identify the masterminds who are involved in this derogatory act of ruining the healthcare system. Immediate arrest of such individuals and proper prosecution can set an example before the countrymen. Moreover, once harsh examples are set, it will deter would-be culprits from indulging in such crimes.

Above all, those criminals who have already been captured or arrested should be properly interrogated to get detailed information about the whereabouts of other corrupted people and how they are operating the syndicate.

Once all members are identified, everyone should be brought to book. Moreover, these types of activities should be nipped in the bud with a view to putting an end to such malpractice once and for all.

In the end, it must be said that the government deserves appreciation for the timely actions taken against the culprits carrying out unscrupulous activities in the health sector.
