The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has found evidence of irregularities and corruption in the Katiadi Upazila Health Complex.

The ACC Enforcement Team led by Deputy Director Md. Faruk Ahmed and Deputy Assistant Director Md. Enamul Haque of Mymensingh District’s  Anti-Corruption Commission conducted an operation on February 18 this year in the wake of allegations of irregularities and corruption against Upazila Health Officers, Food Suppliers, Supervisors and others.

After the inspection, ACC found the allegations to be true and submitted a report to the Deputy Director (Enforcement) of the Anti-Corruption Commission in Dhaka on March 22.

According to the report, there were many irregularities about the substandard food that were being given to the patients in the hospital.

They used only the name of the  food without giving the required

amount of food. They provided about half of the amount of food mentioned in the list. During the-spot inspection, it was found that the hospital provided only substandard food to the patients, the hospital authorities allowed the doctors to stay even after being transferred to the residential quarters.

As the allegation of providing substandard food to the patients was proved true, it was communicated to the Civil Surgeon of Kishoreganj. As a result, the Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Md. Tanvir Hasan, Senior Staff Nurse Jebun Nesa Khanam were transferred elsewhere and the contract of food supply was cancelled.

On September 29, a letter from the Enforcement Unit of the Anti-Corruption Commission head office with a memorandum number - 00.01.0000.109.30.001.19-1205, mentioned that Azizul Haque, a food supplier and diet contractor of Katiadi Upazila Health Complex was hired as a contractor on the spot.

When this correspondent went to talk to Dr. Md. Tanvir Hasan on the matter, he declined to comment on this matter.
