866 poor pregnant mothers get Tk 14.72 lakh in Gaibandha

A total of 866 poor pregnant mothers of Shaghata upazila in Gaibandha district got cash of Taka 14, 72, 200 as treatment assistance from LAMB Hospital, Parbotipur of Dinajpur district on Thursday, reports BSS. 

The cash was disbursed to the beneficiary pregnant women of the upazila in cooperation with UNFPA, sources said.

On the occasion, a cash distribution function organized by upazila health and family planning office was held on the premises of the upazila health complex in the afternoon.

Civil surgeon (CS) Dr. ABM Abu Hanif addressed the function as the chief guest and upazila parishad chairman Jahangir Kabir and UNO Mohiuddin Zahangir were present as special guests with upazila health and family planning officer Dr. Arifuzzaman in the chair.

Dr Hanif urged the pregnant mothers to check up their bodies at least four times going to the registered physicians for smoothly delivery and avoiding other complexities.

The CS also thanked the UNFPA and the LAMB Hospital for standing beside the poor pregnant mothers of the upazila with the UN’s Centre Emergency Response Fund.

Later, the CS formally distributed cash support to the beneficiary mothers as the chief guest.

Each of the pregnant mothers received Taka 1700 that would be used for their treatment purposes during their pregnant time, said project manager of LAMB Hospital Mahatab Liton.

A large number upazila level officials, public representatives, NGO activists and journalists were present.
