85 die of Covid, 5,727 test positive in a day

Bangladesh registered 85 more deaths from Covid-19 till 8am Wednesday. The total number of deaths has reached at 13,787 with the latest figure.   

This is the highest number of deaths recorded in 54 days. 88 deaths were recorded on April 29.  

The country recorded 5,727 new infections in the meantime taking the total number of people infected to 866,877 according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Wednesday. 

The current positivity rate stands at 20.27 percent and the overall positivity rate stands at 13.53 percent. The death rate now stands at 1.59 percent in the country, added the release. 

The number of fatalities and infections has increased significantly compared to a day earlier. The country recorded 76 deaths and 4,846 infections on Tuesday. 

Among the 85 deceased, 55 were men and 30 were women. Of the victims, 74 died in different hospitals of the country, ten died at home and one was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. 

36 of the deceased were from the Khulna division, 19 from Dhaka, 18 from Rajshahi, seven from Chattogram, three from Mymensingh and one each from Barisal and Rangpur division.

A total of 28,256 samples were tested across the country till 8am Wednesday. 

During this period 3,168 Covid-19 patients have recovered. A total of 791,553 people have recovered from the virus so far and the recovery rate stands at 91.31 percent.

As of Wednesday, 3,899,731 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 179,997,274 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.
