8 Bangladeshis return from India jail

As many as 8 Bangladeshi women returned home through Benapole check post on Monday after serving two years a jail in India.

Indian police handed them over to Benapole immigration police at 10.30 pm on Monday.

Ahsan Habib, officer-in-charge of Benapole immigration police, said traffickers took these women, all hailing from Khulna and Narail districts, to India promising to lucrative jobs, two and half year ago.

But Indian police arrested them in Mumbai for entering the country illegally and sent to a Mumbai court jailed them for two years.

On completion of the jail term, the women were kept at a shelter run by an NGO there before returning home following repeated requests made by the Bangladesh home ministry.

Benapole Port police handed them over to their respective family.
