700 acres of govt land reclaimed in Salimpur forest

Chattogram district administration has cleared 175 structures in jungle Salimpur and Alinagar areas and recovered 700 acres of hilly land.

700 acres of hilly land has been recovered by evacuating 175 structures in the forest Salimpur and Alinagar areas of Sitakunda in Chattogram.  The eviction operation was conducted on Tuesday from 3 pm to 6 pm in the presence of Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mominur Rahman and Superintendent of Police SM Rashidul Haque.

Signboards for the proposed Divisional Hill Management Office, Chattogram Central Jail, Sports Village, Safari and Eco park, RAB and Police Temporary Camp have been installed at the recovered site.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mominur Rahman said, "There are three thousand 100 acres of government private land in Salimpur forest of Sitakunda upazila.  A group of land robbers and terrorists have established illegal settlements by cutting these special lands.  No more illegal constructions will be allowed here.

He said, "The government has undertaken a master plan around the Salimpur forest.  The master plan will be implemented only on the mountain that has been cut.  The environment of the remaining hills will be kept intact.

Superintendent of Police SM Rashidul Haque said, 'No one involved in terrorist activities in Salimpur will be exempted.  Terrorist Yasin has been arrested.  His accomplices will be brought to justice.  Legal action will be taken against those who cut mountains and built sanctuaries.

Director of Environment Department Chattogram Region Mofidul Alam said, "We have cleared 150 illegal structures in 2020 and 350 in 2022 in Salimpur.  Four cases have been filed due to hill cutting in Salimpur.  Our campaign to stop mountain cutting is ongoing.

Sitakunda Upazila Chairman SM Al Mamun, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Mohammad Nazmul Ahsan, Additional Deputy Commissioner (LA) Masud Kamal, Sitakunda Upazila Executive Officer Md Shahadat Hossain, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md Ashraful Alam, Deputy Collector Md Tauhidul Islam, Tanvir Chowdhury, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sitakund Circle) Ashraful Karim, Sitakunda Police Station OC Abul Kalam Azad were present during the operation.
