7 get life in two cases in Jhenidah

 Seven persons were awarded life conviction in two separate cases in Jhenidah. Judge of additional sessions judge court 1, 2 and special tribunal MG Azam delivered the verdict on Sunday noon.

The activists of Purba Bangla Communist Party (PBCP) killed Abdul Gani of Mirjapur village in Jhenidah Sadar upazila by bombing on April 15 night. A brother of the deceased had filed two cases with Jhenidah police station under murder and explosive act accusing four persons next day.

Police submitted charge sheet against four accused Nazim Uddin, Asmat Ali, Takkel and Nazrul Islam Bhutan. The court awarded them for life and fined Taka five thousand each. Tokkel and Nazrul Islam Bhutan were absconding since long.

The court in another case had awarded life conviction to three women drug peddlers for a drug case in bordering Moheshpur of Jhenidah.

Police in Moheshpurarrested four persons with contra banned Indian phensedyl syrup from Dattanagar Bazer rea under the upazila on July 25 in 2013. Police filed a case accusing four persons in the case.

The court found Amena Khatun, Majeda Khatun and Rabeya Khatun guilty and awarded them for life in the prison. They were also fined for Taka two thousand each.

The remaining accused in the case Tara Mia was dead in the meantime, while another accused Amena Khatun was absconding since the case was filed, the court sources said.
