7 Covid deaths in 24 hrs

After going a whole day without any Covid-19 deaths, Bangladesh registered seven deaths from Covid-19 in 24 hours till 8am Sunday. This takes the total number of deaths to 27,953. The current positivity rate stands at 1.16pc.

Although the daily deaths have seen minor fluctuations, the overall number of cases remains significantly low.

According to experts, the Covid-19 situation in a country can be claimed to be under control if the infection rate remains under 5pc for two weeks. Bangladesh has successfully achieved that feat over two month ago.

The country recorded 199 new infections in the meantime taking the total number of people infected to 1,574,088, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday.

The death rate now stands at 1.78 pc in the country, as per the press release. Around 17,135 samples were tested during this time. Among the seven diseased reported, five died in Dhaka division, and one each in Chattogram, and Khulna divisions. 

Around 192 people recovered from the virus during the time. Up until now, a total of 1,538,198 people have recovered from the virus and the recovery rate stands at 97.72 pc. 

As of Sunday, 5,166,003 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 257,560,396 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.
