550 ethnic people receive aid

Educational grant, education materials, health equipment and sewing machines were distributed among 550 ethnic people at Manda Upazila Administration office in Naogaon on Thursday.  Manda Upazila Administration organized the event while the distribution took place on the initiative of Equal Rights Organization (ERO), a voluntary organization working with minorities and marginalized people.

Prime Minister's Office provided the support under 'Development Assistance for Special Areas' programme, to improve the quality of life for small ethnic groups.  Manda Upazila Parishad Chairman Md. Jasim Uddin was the chief guest of the distribution ceremony. Manda Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Abdul Halim presided over the event while, Founding President of ERO Raj Kiran Das gave the welcome address.

On the occasion, a total of Tk 4 lakh was distributed as educational grant while 20 people received sewing machines.  UNO Abdul Halim said, "Our Prime Minister is working to improve the quality of life for minorities and marginalized people and this kind of program will continue in the future,” he said. 

He added that everyone has the right  to education and the Prime Minister emphasizes that no one should be left behind. He urged the students to play a role in building a better Bangladesh by attaining good education at the time.
