5 killed in Cox’s Bazar road accidents

At least five people, including three Rohingyas, were killed and 20 others were injured in two separate road accidents killed at Teknaf and Chakaria upazilas in Cox’s Bazar on Friday. In Teknaf, three Rohingyas were killed and 15 others were injured as a pick-up van skidded off the road and fell into a ditch in Noakhali area at the upazila at about 1.300pm. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Teknaf Police Station Prodip Kumar Das confirmed the matter.
The Rohingyas were identified as Nur Mohammod, Md Edris and Md Jobair. The Rohingya people were enjoying Eid boarded on the pickup on the road. They died on the spot, said the OC. The 15 injured people were admitted to hospitals in Teknaf and Cox’s Bazar district town. The bodies were sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy. In Chakaria, two people including a woman were killed and five others were injured as a bus collided head-on with a microbus on Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar Road at upazila in the afternoon. The deceased were identified as Rawshan Ara Begum, 45, hailed from Uttar Fulchari area of the upazila and Sanak Pal, 26, from Dulahazara area. Highway police said Rawshan Ara died on the spot while Sanak Pal succumbed to his injuries on the way to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
