The third death anniversary of former Awami League advisory council member and railways minister Suranjit Sengupta was observed at Derai upazila on Wednesday.
Upazila Awami League and Suranjit Sengupta Memorial Parishad jointly organized a mourning rally at Derai upazila on Wednesday noon. The rally rounded the different roads of Derai town and ended at the Upazila Parishad Auditorium. Later, a discussion meeting was held.
President of Derai upazila Awami League Asab Uddin Sarder presided over the discussion while Lawmaker of Sunamganj-2 constituency Joya Sengupta (wife of Suranjit Sengupta) was also present as the chief guest.
At that time, general secretary of Upazila Awami League Pradip Roy, Vice-president Siraj-ud-Doula Talukder, Advocate Sohel Ahmed, Sunamganj Press club President Habibur Rahman Talukder, joint-general Secretary of Upazila Awami League and Municipal Mayor Mosharrof Miah, former upazila chairman Hafizur Rahman Talukder, Lutfur Rahman Miah, Organizing secretary Advocate Aviram Talukder, Vice-chairman Mohon Chowdhury, Advocate Ripa Sinha, Panel Mayor of Municipality Biswajeet Roy, Union Parishad chairman Rejwan Khan, Shibli Ahmed Beg along with others were also present. Students of different institutions were also participated at this time.
Veteran politician and Awami League leader Suranjit Sengupta died on February 5, 2017 at the age of 72.
