Three students, including two of Haji Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU), drowned as a boat capsized in Ashurar Beel in Nababganj upazila of Dinajpur on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Hasnat Dipto, a student of Civil Engineering Department, Rafid Hasan of Fisheries Department of the university; and Faria Akther Mou, a fourth-year student of Dinajpur Government Women’s College.
HSTU Proctor Professor Mohammad Khaled confirmed the matter.
Police said five students went to Ashurar Beel at noon and hired a small boat. The students drowned in the water as the boat capsized in the beel around 4.00pm.
Later, locals rescued the students and took them to Nababganj Upazila Health Complex where doctor declared the trio dead.
