3 salt farmers killed in lightning

Three salt farmers were killed in thunderbolt triggered by hour-long nor’wester at Maheshkhali upazila in Cox’s Bazar on Saturday. The deceased were identified as Manik, 17, and Mostafizur Rahman, 35, of Hoanak union and Md Farukh, 25, of Baro Maheshkhali union.

The three died in the thunderbolt as they were working at salt fields. The nor’wester began at about 3:00 pm that carried out havoc for one-hour damaging kutcha (built with teen and clay) houses, uprooting trees, betel leaf farmhouse in different areas in the district. Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Cox’s Bazar  Md Kamal Hossain said UNO has been asked to assess the losses caused by the nor’wester.
