2 UP chairmen, one member suspended for irregularities

The Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives has suspended two UP chairmen and one member for allegedly taking cash and construction materials from the beneficiaries outside the rules of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief. 

On Wednesday afternoon, the local government issued a separate circular signed by Mohammad Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury, deputy secretary of the local government department of the Ministry of Rural Development and Cooperatives. 

Hasadah UP Chairman of Jibonnagar Upazila was temporarily dismissed. Rabiul Islam and member Md Sohail Rana Shyamal and the same upazila Baka UP chairman Md Abdul Quader Prodhan. As the allegations against them were proved in the investigation, the concerned deputy commissioner has recommended action against them.

In view of their criminal activities, the government feels that the exercise of power by the Union Parishad is not appropriate from an administrative point of view.

Therefore, under Section 34(4) of the Local Government Act 2009, they were suspended from their posts. At the same time, the temporarily dismissed chairman and members were requested to send a reply to the local government department through the concerned deputy commissioner within 10 working days of receiving a reply as to why they would not be finally removed from their posts.

Jibonnagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer SM Munim Lincoln confirmed the matter and said that two UP chairmen and one UP member were suspended on charges of various irregularities including financial transactions in building disaster-tolerant houses.
