2 killed, 5 shops gutted in Cox’s Bazaar fire

A shop owner along with an employee was burned to death and five shops were gutted as a fire broke out in Garjonia bazar in Ramu upazila on Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as grocery store owner Feroz Ahmed, 55, a resident of the small Jamchari area of Kacchpia union and Anwar Hossain, 3, an employee of the shop and son of Nur Kader of Shukamnia village of the same union. Quoting locals, police said the fire broke out at the grocery shop of Firoz Ahmed around 2am and soon engulfed adjacent shops in the bazaar. On information, fire service teams from Ramu and Cox’s Bazar fire stations rushed in and put out the fire around 3am.
