2 Arrested in Gafargaon Imam murder case

Detective police have arrested two youths in connection with the murder of Mymensingh Gafargaon’s Pagla mosque Imam Hafez Maulana Md Azim Uddin.

The mystery of the murder came out after the arrest of these two people 10 days after the murder. According to them, Azim Uddin was hacked to death by four people for obstructing fish farming.

This information was given in a press release sent from the DB office on Wednesday (September 30) evening.

The arrested are Siraj Sheikh (25) of Alli village of the upazila and Sujan Mia (25) of Sadhua village.

District Detective Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shah Kamal Akhand said Rifat of Sadhua village under Pagla police station of the upazila had a long-running dispute with mosque Imam Hafez Maulana Md Azim Uddin over a pond. Recently, Rifat prepared to farm fish in the pond. But Imam Azim Uddin stopped him from farming fish. Rifat, Rubel, Sujan and Siraj got angry and planned to punish him.

Then, on the night of September 19, Rifat and his three accomplices stabbed Azim Uddin and ran away near Sadhua Market near Sadhua-Niguari canal.

Bilkis Khatun, wife of the deceased, filed a case with Pagla Police Station on September 20. The investigation of the case came to the district intelligence branch. Later, on Tuesday (September 29) night, DB was able to arrest the killers Siraj Sheikh and Sujan Mia from Sreepur Burmi in Gazipur district.

When he was handed over to the court at noon on Wednesday (September 30), accused Siraj confessed to killing the Imam.
