Bangladesh on Saturday registered 2,644 new cases of Covid-19 and 34 deaths in the last 24 hours when 1,012 patients were declared free of the pandemic coronavirus.
During the period till 8am, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) update, 12,891 samples were tested in 87 government authorised laboratories across Bangladesh.
With this, the number of total confirmed cases stood at 274,525 in Bangladesh with 3,625 deaths and 157,635 recoveries. The recovery rate is now 57.42 percent while the death rate is 1.32 percent.
Of the latest victims, the DGHS in a statement said, 24 were men and 10 were women.
Sixteen of them hailed from Dhaka, seven each from Khulna and Chattogram, two from Sylhet, one each from Rangpur and Rajshahi division.
Thirty-one of them have died in different hospitals and three at their respective residences.
Currently, 52,851 people are quarantined across the country – including 1,954 newly-quarantined individuals. A total of 413,064 people have completed their quarantine course.
The country is capable of accommodating 31,991 people at 629 institutional quarantine facilities across the country.
The authorities placed 862 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation, bringing the total to 20,209 after 41,284 left.
Bangladesh has tested 1,341,648 samples since January. Of them, 20.46 percent came out positive for the virus.
