1,000 poor people get food in Rajshahi ahead of Eid

More than 1,000 poor and distressed people were given different items of food to mark the holy month of Ramadan and forthcoming Eid-ul-Fitr on Monday, reports BSS.

Rajshahi City unit of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) organised the food distribution programme at Rajshahi Collegiate School premises in the city.

City unit Vice-president of Bangladesh Awami League Shaheen Akhter Rainy attended the programme as the chief guest with the BDRCS city unit vice-president Rejaul Karim Raju in the chair.

Unit General Secretary Prof Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan, Relief Coordinator of Qatar Red Crescent Society Hateb Safi, Headmaster of Collegiate School Dr Nur Jahan Begum and BDRCS city unit Assistant Director Mahbub Elahi were also present at the programme.

On the occasion, each of the recipients both male and female was given two kilograms of date, two liters of edible oil, two kilograms of sugar, one kilogram of salt, two kilograms of lentil, one kilogram of mug-pulse, one kilogram of gram-pulse and half-kilogram of kishmish and peanut each.

Speaking on the occasion, Shaheen Akhter said the BDRCS has been implementing various humanitarian works for the welfare of the poor and distressed population and urged the organisation to expand its activities to the city’s slum areas so that the urban slum people are benefited during the Eid celebration.
